Iconosquare vs Later: analytics first, or the calendar first

Iconosquare vs Later comes down to which screen you open first in the morning. Iconosquare is an analytics and reporting tool that also schedules. Later is a visual planning calendar that also reports. Both publish to the same networks and both start around the price of a lunch, so the features overlap more than the product pages suggest. The difference is where each one is deep. If you mostly need to prove results to somebody, lean Iconosquare. If you mostly need to fill a calendar, lean Later. And if you actually came here to figure out which hashtags to post under, neither one is built for that question, which is covered near the end.

Everything below about Iconosquare and Later was read from their own pricing pages in September 2026, and Iconosquare’s figures were re-read on 1 October 2026 after it changed them. Plans and prices change, so check their pages before you buy.

The short verdict

What each product actually is, as of September 2026

Iconosquare groups its product under Analytics, Reporting, Scheduling, Collaboration, Conversations and Listening. Its menu describes Listening in one line:

Track mentions, competitors, hashtags.

Its plan names say where the weight sits: Starter is “Create and publish content”, Launch is “Measure and prove results”, and Scale is “Collaborate and optimize strategy”. It prices in euros.

Later’s pricing page leads with a planning promise:

Manage your entire social media strategy. Free for 14 days.

Its unit is a social set, one profile per supported network: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat. So Starter’s single set is 8 profiles, as long as they are all on different networks. It prices in US dollars.

The practical difference is what a plan limits. Iconosquare limits profiles tightly and gives analytics generously. Later gives profiles generously and limits how far back its analytics go.

Iconosquare vs Later on price, as of September 2026

Both pages show annual billing as the default. Iconosquare frames the discount as “2 months free”; Later frames it as “3 months free | 25% off”. The figures below are the yearly-billed monthly prices from each page.

Analytics history1 year on Starter, 2 years on ScaleUp to 3 months on Starter, 1 year on Growth, 2 years on Scale

Two things in that table are easy to misread. Iconosquare’s post limit on Starter is 30 per month in total, while Later’s is 30 per profile. And Iconosquare’s word “from” matters: its page lets you choose how many social profiles you manage, so the figure is a floor.

Do the arithmetic on your own account

One person, one Instagram account, reporting to nobody. Iconosquare Free may be enough: 10 posts a month, standard analytics, one month of history. If you post more than twice a week, Iconosquare Starter from €9 costs about half of Later Starter at $18.75, and the choice is still calendar against dashboards.

A small brand that has to show a boss the numbers every month. Iconosquare Launch from €33 adds automated reports and a single inbox for comments, DMs and mentions. On Later, reporting that reaches back a year needs Growth at $37.50, and custom analytics sits on Scale. For this reader Iconosquare usually buys more of what they need per euro.

One person running six brands across several networks. Later Scale at $82.50 covers 6 social sets and 48 profiles. Iconosquare Scale from €69 covers 5 profiles and tops out at 20 for €219 a month, so the same workload pushes you to Custom. Later wins on sheer account count.

Who should stay with Iconosquare

If most of your week is dragging posts around a grid, though, you are paying for reporting depth and using it as a calendar.

Who should switch to Later, and what it costs you

Later is the better fit when Instagram planning is the point and many accounts are involved. The profile allowance is larger than Iconosquare’s at each step, extra users on Growth and Scale are listed at $3.75 a month each, and the calendar is the product’s home screen.

What you give up, stated plainly:

Where hashtag research fits in Iconosquare vs Later

Both products touch hashtags, and neither answers the question most people have when they search for them.

Iconosquare’s hashtag monitoring, on Scale, tracks tags you already chose. Later’s caption helpers suggest tags for the post you are writing. Both assume the list exists. Working out the list, meaning what a niche actually posts under and who is posting it, is usually done by copying another account’s set. That is how the same thirty tags circulate for months.

Hashtag Ninja starts at that step. You describe what you want to know in a sentence, and the planner, which is free and needs no account, returns a collection plan: the tags worth pulling, how many posts, over what window, and the assumptions it made so you can correct them. Running that plan, meaning the collection, the written report and the CSV of posts behind it, is open, on the 500 free rows a signed-in account gets every 30 days. The pricing page says what more rows will cost. The narrower jobs have their own pages, such as Instagram hashtag research and Instagram competitor hashtag analysis.

It is not a scheduler. Keep whichever of the two you picked above for publishing and reporting, and do the tag research before the post exists.

How to switch, if you are switching

  1. Count profiles, users and posts per month. Those three numbers decide the plan on both products.
  2. Export your reports first. Analytics history does not move between tools, so save what you reference before a plan lapses.
  3. Use the trial on real work. Later’s 14 days and Iconosquare’s 14-day trial on paid plans are enough to schedule and report on one real fortnight.
  4. Overlap one cycle. Running both for a month is cheaper than finding out a report somebody relied on is gone.
  5. Settle your hashtag list separately. Neither calendar will do it for you.
